How old do I have to be to get piercing?
Piercing Consent Ages:
– 6+ for lobes (parental consent)
– ⁠14+ for ear cartilage (parental consent)
– ⁠14+ for facial piercings (parental consent)
– ⁠16+ for all piercings except nipple and tongue (no parental consent required)
– ⁠18+ for all piercings including nipple and tongue
You must be at least 16 years old for a piercing according to the local health rules and regulations without consent form. If you are under this age, we need you to come with a guardian or parent who must sign a consent form in person. Please note that the guardian must have an official Legal Order or Letter of Guardianship. Feel free to call us to make sure you meet the requirements. To verify your identification we accept driving license, passport, Canadian Permanent Resident card, Canadian Citizenship Card with photo.
 
 
Does it hurt to get piercing?
What hurts for one client may not necessarily hurt for another because everyone perceives pain differently. However, in general, the following information is a good starting point for clients to identify the pain factor:
In contrast to fleshy tissue, cartilage is more painful to pierce (inner and upper ear, septum).
Because the tongue is typically pierced between the two muscles, it typically doesn’t hurt as much as other piercings.
Remember that any pain you experience will be amplified by your nerves. The most crucial thing to remember is to relax as much as you can and focus on taking deep, steady breaths; this will help to minimize any discomfort.
 
 
What kind of jewelry do you use for piercings?
Your fist pre-sterilized surgical steel jewelry is included in the price. After the healing process you can change it to whatever you like.

Can I consume alcohol or marijuana before my piercing appointment?
No, because consuming alcohol thins your blood, which means more bleeding. It can affect the visibility for your artist and impact the quality of the piercing. Similarly, marijuana increases your heart rate that makes your blood flow more intense which means excessive bleeding. We strongly recommend not to consume any of those substances prior to your piercing appointment. Finally, it is at 814 Wellness discretion to reject a service if we suspect that you consumed alcohol or marijuana before your appointment.
 
 
Is it safe to get piercing at 814 Wellness?
Yes, completely safe! For most people piercings are safe as long as each artist and the entire studio strictly complies with the Toronto Public Health regulations. You can rest assured that 814 Wellness is trained and educates its team so that each artist puts their clients’ safety as a top priority. We have the highest level of sterilization possible and use only pre-sterilized high-quality materials and supplies.
 
 
How long does it take for ear piercing to heal?
A minimum of 6-8 weeks for ear lobe piercings and 12 weeks for ear cartilage piercings. You should only switch your earrings after the recommended healing period.

Permanent makeup procedures generally last anywhere from 6 months to 5 years, depending on the procedure done and the clients lifestyle. Touchups are required to keep up the appearance of the permanent makeup procedure, as well as to increase longevity.

Permanent makeup procedures are done by injecting semi permanent pigments into the skin using handheld devices containing, either a single needle, or several small compact needles.

Is a touch up necessary?
•	Yes – The technique and aftercare will minimize the need to touch up early, but it will not eliminate the necessity of a touch up. The touch up is needed 6-8 weeks past the original procedure. The feet, knees, fingers and elbows will fade faster than other parts of the body.

Tiny Tattoo After Care
•	Do not remove the Tegaderm patch for 3 days
•	After removing the Tegaderm patch, gently wash the tattoo with mild soap and water
•	Pat dry, do not wipe
•	Continue to gently wash the tattoo once a day 
•	No direct sunlight while healing
•	After healing use SPF daily to protect the tattoo
•	Do not wear tight clothes on the tattoo while healing
•	No swimming, hot tubs or baths until healed
•	The healing process can take up to 15 days, keep completely clean during this time

Contraindications

How Long Does It Take?
On average the appointment will take 2-3 hours 

Touch up should be booked 6-8 weeks from the initial appointment, and you may have to touch up the whole lip or only certain areas. When booking touch up appointments, be sure to allow yourself lots of time, about 1-2 hours.

What to Expect with Lip Blushing
Clients can expect that there will be moderate swelling, redness and potentially even bruising immediately after and, sometimes lasting, up to 5 days after.

During the initial healing period, there will be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. It will almost feel as though you are wearing a dryer up liquid lipstick. If there is scabbing or flaking, do not pick, and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own.

Expect the chosen color to lighten by up to 40% once the healing process is complete. Color may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results.

Contraindication
The following contraindications are NOT ok to perform the lip blushing procedure on :
•	Under the age of 18
•	Autoimmune disease
•	Pregnant or Nursing
•	Skin disease on or near the site
•	History of cold sores (consult physician)
•	Allergies to makeup or pigments
•	Easily triggered hyper pigmentation
•	HIV or Hepatitis
•	Hemophiliac
•	Healing disorders
•	Accutane or Steroids (consult physician)

Aftercare
Rinse lips 5 hours after procedure with luke warm water and pat dry. 
1.	Apply Lip Lock healing balm every hour for the next 5-7 days (do not let the lips dry out). 
2.	Avoid makeup, excessive sweating, sauna, pools, sunbathing and kissing for 7 days.
3.	Do not pick the lips or the scabbing that will occur for 5 days. 

Prior to the procedure
It is most important to stay hydrated. Chapped, dry, or cracked lips are more difficult to work on, and often don’t absorb pigment the same way as nourished and moisturized lips would. 

For 5-7 days before the appointment, you should be drinking lots of water, keeping your lips moisturized with a nourishing lip chap, and exfoliating lips nightly with either a lip scrub or face cloth.

We will numb the area prior to lip blushing as well as re-numb half way through the procedure to minimize discomfort. It is also recommended to avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to the appointment and take a Tylenol (if ok’d by your physician as a muscle relaxant) 1 hour before your appointment to further help with discomfort. No coffee 4 hours prior and take an Advil after the procedure for inflammation (if a doctor ok’s).

After the procedure
If you are experiencing a vast amount of swelling you can apply cold ice packs for 10 mins on and 10 mins off for 1 hour after the procedure. No exercise for 48 hours and up to 7 days if possible as sweat can interfere with the healing process. Prop the head up with a pillow to keep the head elevated during sleep to minimize swelling.

How long a Lip Blushing procedure lasts does vary from person to person. After having completed the initial session and having the 6-8 weeks touch-up, the results typically last between 2-3 years. Additional touch-ups will be required to maintain the desired look. 

Lifestyle is also a big factor that contributes to longevity of lip blushing. Things such as smoking and sun exposure can cause the tattoo to fade quicker than usual or those that use a lot of exfoliating products in their skin care routine may notice the colour fade sooner as well. These clients may need sooner touch-up appointments to help with the longevity.
